Our Story

Born & raised in Miami, Florida, we (Richard & Vikki) met as kids and began dating in 2011. We had our son, David, in 2013 and got married in 2019. After he was born, we decided we wanted to raise him in a different environment. Miami is filled with the incomparable — the people, the food, the music, the art. There’s nothing quite like it. And it will always be home. But those who are raised in Miami know a different side of it than what you typically see in magazines and on social media. It’s crowded, chaotic, and fast-moving. We wanted something different for our son. We wanted something simple. Not necessarily easy, but simple.

We had dreams of owning a home on some land, but any chance of seeing those dreams come to fruition seemed distant. Things were not simple where we were, but they were easy. We had family near us. We had friends. We had income security. We wanted better for our son but lacked inspiration and resources. So, we waited.

In 2016, Victoria was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis: an auto-immune disease in which one’s immune system attacks the protective covering on nerve-endings in the brain & spinal cord. The resulting nerve damage causes a disruption in the signals the brain sends to the body. A blessing in disguise, this diagnosis was the catalyst for many changes over the coming years.

We left Miami in 2017 and began a healing journey— changing our eating habits, our purchasing habits, and our daily routine. We tried our hand at growing our own food. We became more active and spent more time outside - hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, and even resting. We made adventure a family value.

In 2021, we made our biggest change yet when we made the decision to purchase 6 acres in North Florida. Since then we’ve learned a lot of new skills that have shaped the way we live and grow. We bought our first chickens which gave us our first home-grown eggs. We built a large garden. We began researching ways to be more sustainable and practicing better home economics. We began investing in food security and self-sustainability.

We will continue to learn and grow and, as we do, we’ll continue to share with hopes of inspiring others.

Because, if you want this, you shouldn’t wait. It’s easier than you think.

After all, we’re all a little wild.
